Ruth's Biography
Ruth Huntington was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 3, 1859 to Frederic Dan Huntington and Hannah Sargent. She grew up in Syracuse, New York, where her father, was a bishop. Ruth was well educated and well traveled. In 1880, her family sent her to Germany for three years to study piano under Clara Schumann. On her way to Germany she was accompanied by her older sister Arria and friend Miss Hamilton. When she returned three years later her older brother George came to meet her in Europe. In 1887 Ruth married Archibald Lowery Sessions and moved to New York City with him. While in New York she worked on factory condition reforms and child labor laws. Ruth and Archie had two children Hannah and John. In her life she also published several poems and short stories, many under a male pen-name. By the 1890s she was an editor for Girl's Friendly Magazine. Ruth died in Northampton, Massachusetts on December 2, 1946.
